Interpreting Your Hogan MVPI Results
INTRODUCTION
The Hogan Motives, Values, Preferences Inventory, or MVPI, describes personality from the inside — the core goals and drivers that determine what we desire and what motivates us. As leaders, it is critical for us to have these insights because our values drive our behaviors, aspirations, and expectations, and they determine leadership style, unconscious biases, and alignment with organizational culture. Drawing from Hogan’s MVPI, the Values report shines light on the type of work environment you create as a leader.

Scales Explained
The Hogan MVPI assesses a person's values and motivations across a set of 4 primary scales, with 10 subscales

- Recognition: Desire for attention and approval from others.
- Power: Desire to influence and control others.
- Hedonism: Pursuit of pleasure and enjoyment in life.
Affiliation Interest
- Altruism: Desire to help and support others.
- Affiliation: Need for social interaction and belonging.
- Tradition: Respect for customs, rituals, and established ways of doing things.
- Security: Need for stability, predictability, and safety.
- Commerce: Desire for financial success and material wealth.
- Aesthetics: Appreciation for beauty, creativity, and art.
- Science: Interest in knowledge, curiosity, and understanding.
